GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION
The objective of The Summer Course on the
Security of Cultural Heritage is to analyse the most common crimes related to the
art world. The course will explore the various security systems best for each
diverse structure (from
the small museum to the art gallery, from the necropolis to the underwater
archaeological site), the most common techniques of forgery and counterfeiting
of works and objects of art, the negative consequences that the illicit market
causes for the legal sale of art, how to prevent and avoid them, the role that
organised crime holds in the trafficking of art, techniques and methods used to
protect culture goods in times of war and armed conflict. The use of didactic material that has been specially prepared for the course,
practical examples, concrete case studies and simulations in the classroom will
be used as ulterior support to the lessons. The notions and concepts presented
in class will be further reinforced by organised visits, guided by the staff, to
archaeological sites, museums and sites of cultural interest in Chianti and in
the area directly surrounding Florence. The focus of these visits will be to
apply what has been taught in the morning sessions.
